SUSTAINABILITY at asum 24

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”– Robert Swan

With a need globally to reduce carbon emissions and adopt sustainable practices, ASUM 24 will be enacting the following initiatives to reduce waste and create a sustainable event.

ASUM 24’s eco-friendly event initiatives follow the principle that where possible, all conference-related goods should be consumable, recyclable, reusable, or compostable. We also choose to align ourselves with suppliers who focus on similar sustainability principles.

ASUM 24 will be using a conference app where all the information you require to make the most of your time at the event will be available, including the program, speaker details and exhibitor information. The conference app will replace the handbook and physical handouts. Exhibitors and sponsors are encouraged to follow ASUM's sustainability principles.

Sustainability is at the core of our exhibition partner's business practices. One of the key ways Outstanding Displays achieves this is by ensuring all build materials can be reused, or recycled after the event. Another key initiative is their Trees for Displays program, where they plant at least one tree for every exhibition booth and feature they build.

W Hotel's business practices focus on sustainability from design to the guest experience. Sustainability is embedded into their business strategy by reducing environmental impacts through sustainably managing their energy and water use, reducing waste and carbon emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy, and by sourcing responsibly integrating leading environmental and social practices into our supply chain and partnering with like-minded suppliers. We ask delegates to exercise sustainable practices and environmental caution at ASUM 24 by following the correct instructions for the disposal of waste and and using minimal disposable items such as paper towels and napkins.

Our name tags will be printed on recycled paper and we will have a lanyard recycling station to minimise our event waste.

We encourage all attendees to take public transport to and from the venue and choose the carbon offset option when booking flights.

We look forward to seeing you all in Brisbane and encourage our delegates to support ASUM in aiming for a sustainable event.
